Motivating Myself Again After a Setback - 09/16/2008

I am not proud of myself and I cannot lie to you, for I am not doing well on changing my negative behavior.  I was doing great and then, as if I ran into a brick wall, I sunk into an area of no control.

Attitude adjustment, weights, and sealed goals for 2008 - 01/02/2008

I successfully navigated Thanksgiving, a 7 day cruise, Christmas, and New Year’s with only a 2 pound weight gain.  This is incredible for me!  I cut my portions and walked as much as I could.  I hate to exercise, but I found when I walked and climbed the stairs I felt better and burned off some calories.  The cruise ship was a great way to really test my resolve to change my lifestyle.  I ate a lot of veggies and fresh fruit and walked this huge ship and all three ports of call, probably logging more than 15 miles in one week.  Since I started this blog, I have a net weight loss of 10 pounds but I am not quite ready to pose for Playboy.

PatThere are those of you I will never meet or see, but yet you are wishing me well as I go forward in pursuit of a healthier lifestyle. When I add you to my family, friends, co-workers, and my cardiologist, I have to keep giving it my best. At the same time that I am changing I am trying to promote change in my household. Now that’s a real challenge. My husband loves to eat the special healthy dishes I fix for myself, but he wipes out the benefits by putting gravy on the brown rice or wheat pasta I fixed.

Welcome to my blog! - 11/20/2007

I recently left my doctor’s office. Not a good visit. All the way to my car I kept asking myself, “How in the devil did I get myself in this pickle?” I’m overweight and all my numbers are high—triglycerides, blood pressure, and cholesterol. Of course, none of this is news to me, but this is my new primary care doctor who also happens to be a cardiologist. Her words hit me like a sledge hammer. She wanted to know if I was trying to have an early funeral. If that was, in fact, my goal—then I was well on my way to achieving it, she assured me.
